How to register and schedule a soccer tournament
Running a soccer tournament used to mean spreadsheets, group chats, and a whiteboard that only one person understood. On Playmaker App, the Organizer role gives you the whole competition in your pocket - from the first draft of the rules to the final whistle, with standings that update the moment a score is entered.
All you need to get started is a free Playmaker App account. Sign in, and you can create your first tournament right away - one account can organize a tournament, own a team, and hold a player profile all at the same time.
Create your tournament with the 5-step wizard
A guided wizard walks you through setup. Your tournament starts as a private Draft that only you can see - edit it freely and save at any step, then publish when you’re ready for teams to find it.
- 1BasicsName your tournament, pick the sport, and set the dates.
- 2FormatChoose group stage, knockout, or both - round-robin groups feeding into a bracket.
- 3TeamsInvite teams directly or open public applications so any team can apply.
- 4RulesSet roster limits, points for a win, draw and loss, and player eligibility.
- 5Review & PublishConfirm everything, then publish to open applications and appear in the Tournament Finder.
A tournament moves through four stages. Draft is private and fully editable. Published means teams can discover it and apply. Active means teams are locked and the competition is underway. Live marks a specific match in progress in Live Centre.
Fill the bracket: applications and invites
Once published, teams start applying. From Registrations & Invites you review each application and pending invite, then approve or reject - approving creates a participant. You can also search for teams that haven’t applied yet and invite them directly. When you have enough teams, close registration so no new applications come in.
Verify rosters, build groups, generate fixtures
With your teams confirmed, prepare the competition in order: verify every team’s roster, arrange the groups, then let Playmaker App generate the schedule for you.
- 1Verify rostersApprove a whole team at once, approve individual players, or send a change request for anything that needs fixing.
- 2Build groupsAuto-distribute teams with a snake draft for balance, or arrange them manually.
- 3Generate fixturesCreate the full round-robin fixture list for every group in one tap.
- 4Schedule matchesSet each match’s start time, end time and venue.
Go live and run match day
After the group stage, set up the knockout bracket and seed your teams. When it’s time to start, Go Live runs a pre-flight check - it confirms teams, groups and fixtures all exist - then sets the tournament to Active. From there, open Live Centre on match day, select the fixture, and enter scores and events as they happen. Standings, team pages and player stats update instantly for everyone following along.
That’s the whole loop: draft it, publish it, fill it, schedule it, and run it - all from your phone. Your first tournament is a free account away.
